Tatting Tea Tues & What's In Your Stash?

Ah, another Tatting Tea Tuesday! Love them! Ambitatterous asked us all to respond to What's in Your Stash? She wanted to know particularly about HDT. We must be tuned into one another! My Tatting Tea Tuesday was going to be about my latest HDT experience.

Now, I love buying other people's HDT, but I learned how to dye warps for weaving many years ago, so it was just a matter of doing it on a smaller size thread. I just couldn't resist the call of the dyes! I will continue to purchase from you well known HDT dyers, so no fear there! My HDT stash isn't nearly the size it needs to be!! LOL!

Today I'll be tatting samples from the results of my own dye pots. Here's some of what I did on Sunday. I started a dyeing journal with my formulas & samples, so I can do these colors again in case I like how they tat up.

Hi Katie,

I just noticed that you're now listed on the 25-Motif Challenge! Welcome aboard!

I also noticed that Janette Baker herself has commented on your blog and appreciated your mentioning her book and how you learned to tat from it! Pretty cool! If the correction to the daffodil doily pattern didn't come with your book, Janette will be happy to send it to you. You can contact her on her website at learnhowtotat.com. Diane the Lace Lovin' Librarian caught the error (thanks, Diane!) and she notified the publisher, and apparently new copies of the book have the correction, but you may have an earlier version.

I'm amazed that you're already dyeing threads! How nice that you have experience doing so. I admit that this is still all a mystery to me!

I enjoy reading your blog (very creative!) and am glad you finally learned to tat after years of frustration in trying to do so. Many of us have 'been there', and therefore appreciate this wonderful lace even more! And blogging has given us a marvelous way to share our enthusiasm and encouragement!

I look forward to seeing more of your tatting. You're definitely past the 'beginners' stage!

Ooh! I love the colors you've put together! I like buying other people's beautiful threads. I don't know when I'd find time to dye my own. Besides, there are so many beautiful colors to choose from, I'd never be able to decide!

I think dying becomes an addiction in itself, especially if you like color! Several years ago I tried some simple colored egg dye on my threads and realized very quickly that I would get in way over my head if I continued! Still, there are times I would like a certain color combination or even a specific color and it would be nice if I could do it myself easily...without getting addicted. LOL!

Thank you, thank you! I had a great time dyeing! Winding the threads into skeins was tedious, & that would keep me from becoming addicted. LOL! Thanks to you Kathy for all your kind compliments & encouragement!

Yes, I'm officially a 25 Motifer, & that's a great way to use up some of my HDT.

Lovely colors you have dyed on your threads. I wish I had more time, I'd love to experiment on dying my own threads. I love to tat in color!!

I love your dyed threads. They are so pretty...and I think some people know I love tatting in color. I think color makes things so much more interesting. Let me know when you start to sell any of it.

Your latest HDTs remind me of my fave hand-dyed knitting yarns (like Nori or Mini-Mochi or Ziton Trekking XXL). So pretty! Can't wait for feedback on how the colors tat up. Do you do your own testing or solicit thread testers?

No plans for selling. I'd have to make sure I can duplicate my batches before I could think about selling. I mixed some of my own colors, like the teal. If I were going to sell, I think I'd buy pre-mixed for the sake of having consistant batches. For now, I'm just doing the dyeing for fun, not profit.
